Today is Veterans Day, originally noted as Armistice Day (or Remembrance Day)  to commemorate the end of hostilities on the western front of World War I at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.

Today’s prompt is selected from Alfred, Lord Tennyson‘s 1854 poem The Charge of the Light Brigade, commemorating the British military’s performance at the Battle of Balaclava during the Crimean War:

Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die.

You can read the short poem in its entirety by clicking on its title a few lines above. You can also hear a recording of Tennyson reciting his poem at the same link. National Public Radio did a ten-minute profile of the event and the poem on its 150th anniversary, including a recitation, which you can find by clicking here.
