Edgar Allan Poe, often considered the originator of the detective story in what he called his tales of ratiocination, was born on this date in 1809.

He believed “stupidity is a talent for misconception.”

Writing prompt: Write a scene in which your protagonist confronts someone with an unshakable misconception about an inarguable fact.
