On this date in 1971, the USA launched the unmanned scientific probe Mariner 9 to Mars, where it became the first spacecraft to orbit a planet other than the Earth.

Writing prompt: Write a scene in which your protagonist relies on the origin myths of the planets around the world you’ve created to inspire her/himself out of a treacherous situation.
