Today is Veterans Day, the US holiday that honors the men and women who have served in the US military.

President Woodrow Wilson announced the holiday for the first time in 1919, when it was called Armistice Day, and this is what he said about it:

“To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations.”

Do you know anyone in the US Army, Navy, Marines, or Air Force, or do you know someone whose mom or dad serve in the military? What are your feelings about the military, and is what you feel about the military any different than what you think about the military?
