Roman Emperor Hadrian was born on this date in the year 76.

He famously ordered built a wall to defend his empire’s northern frontier from barbarians; Hadrian’s Wall eventually ran from Solway Firth to the River Tyne along what is now the border between England and Scotland.

Writing prompt: Write a scene in which you use a visit by one of your characters to describe the origins of the most famous fortification in the world you’ve created, regardless of whether it’s currently in use.
