On this date in 1897, Marcel Proust met Jean Lorrain in a pistol duel over Lorrain’s slanderous comments about Proust: “One of those pretty little society boys who’ve managed to get themselves pregnant with literature,” and a suggestion Proust was gay.

Neither duelist was injured.

Writing prompt: Write a scene in which a character challenges your protagonist to the most impressive method of disputing another’s honor in the world you’ve created.
