“When I finally caught up with Abraham Trahearne, he was drinking beer with an alcoholic bulldog named Fireball Roberts in a ramshackle joint just outside of Sonora, California, drinking the heart right out of a fine spring afternoon.”
–James Crumley, born this date in 1939.

What did you think of that novel?
I liked it and think Crumley is an underappreciated talent. I’ve been reading quite a bit of his other stuff and really appreciate his ability to make dialogue do so many different things. I have heard that his Milo Milodragovitch books (The Wrong Case, Dancing Bear and The Final Country) are getting a TV series based on the character.
