– Newspaper editor David Elliott, who on this date in 1892 witnessed the townspeople of Coffeyville, Kansas shooting the Dalton Brothers to pieces as the gang tried to rob C.M. Condon & Company’s Bank and the First National Bank.

Writing prompt: Write a scene in which your protagonist must figure out which one of a homogeneous mob of vigilantes did the dirty deed.

    I like the idea of having the protagonist identify the person responsible when everyone in the mob appears similar. It could create some good tension and give you room to use small clues and character behavior. I’d be interested to see how you approach it.
